“Annan Water” (The Decemberists Cover)

By Jeremy Hammond:

My cover of “Annan Water” by The Decemberists, from The Hazards of Love album.

A friend introduced me to The Hazards of Love, and “Annan Water” was a song I liked instantly. It quickly became a newer favorite, and I put it at the top of my list of songs to learn and post to YouTube. It took a while to be able to play and sing it halfway decently, but I finally got it down well enough that I’m happy with it.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

Hammond’s version of “Annan Water” is both emotive and true to the original.  It is an interesting song from a wild album.  The Hazards of Love is a concept album that weaves a fantastic tale — when I write fantastic, I mean that in the truest sense of the word.  The storyline of this concept album involves a woman who falls in love with a shape-shifter, a jealous forest queen, a rake, and others.  Although I have a great  deal of respect for this album, I am hard-pressed to pick individual songs that I look forward to hearing when they come up on random.  After watching this video, though, I have the urge to listen to the original again.

That’s just one of the many benefits of watching the Laptop Sessions!

A great choice for a Laptop Session, “Annan Water” is Jeremy’s second contribution to the Laptop Sessions cover song music video blog as a Guest Sessions artist.

This is one in a series of acoustic cover songs, original music, and free mp3 downloads here on the Laptop Sessions Music Video Blog.
