Chris reaches the 80,000 YouTube views milestone!

By Chris Moore:

Well, it’s been a slow climb uphill, especially considering that I’ve seen many individual cover songs (not unlike my own) that are individually at tens of thousands of views.  That being said, every notch in the belt towards 100,000 is reason for excitement.

So, I took a break from getting dressed and ready for work to report that I have officially reached 80,000 YouTube views!

Every time I hit one of these increments, I get even more determined to see six digits.  So, even though the session-a-day project is over, I’ll just have to find new and different ways to make fewer videos get more views.  Maybe I can start by posting fewer of my favorite songs that are completely unknown to the YouTube community as a whole.  I have to admit that I understand the balance that needs to be struck, but I just love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I record the songs that I truly love.  And I honestly thought that some of my long shots, such as Wilco’s “Wishful Thinking” or even Big Star’s “Thirteen” might pick up some attention from the indie music crowd on YouTube.

Some of the videos that I have recorded recently — covers of Bob Dylan, the Barenaked Ladies, and the Beatles, for instance — have become fairly popular videos, at least for me.  However, many of my other videos are getting fewer views than my average even, say, six months ago.  Some videos — like the Wilco ones — pick up steam after a while, but many others — like Leonard Cohen, the Fruit Bats, and, of course, Big Star — just stagnate.  I like what Jeff has done, cornering the Laptop Sessions market on recording songs that were popular in the 90s but that are not necessarily from popular bands.  As Jim pointed out the other day, Jeff and I seem to be the 90s and 2000s wonder boys.  I guess I’m more of the 90s and 2000s kid with a lot of obscure records in his collection… 🙂

Regardless, I hadn’t intended to write a “State of the Tube” address for myself, but there it is!  I hope you enjoy Jeff’s Thumpin’ Thursday post tonight, stop back for another all-new guest session on Friday, and then I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Have your music heard AND seen by thousands!! Read here…

This is your chance to have your music seen and heard by thousands of Laptop Sessions viewers!  Every day, hundreds of people come to guitarbucketlist.com to view the video post of the day, as well as the hundreds of archived music videos.

Now, we want YOU to record a Laptop Session!

This is a very simple process, and there are only two criteria:  One, that you can play guitar, and two, that you can sing.  Pretty easy, right?

Here’s how to submit:

It’s a simple, 2-step process…

First, record a cover song music video (choose any cover!) and post it on YouTube.com.

Second, send an email to admin@guitarbucketlist.com with:

– the link to your YouTube cover video
– a written description of your video (info about the song, why you recorded it, etc.)
– your contact info

Jim, Chris, and Jeff will choose one video each week, to be posted on Friday.  So, don’t wait — submit your Laptop Session today!!

** Please, no more than two (2) submissions per week. **

We’re looking forward to including new faces and interpretations.  Really, we hope you’ll take part in this great project and that you’ll fill up our 52 Friday slots of the year!

Chris reaches the 70,000 YouTube views milestone!

By Chris Moore:

Hi all!  I’m about to post my very special Christmas Eve video, but before I do, I wanted to announce that (as of yesterday) I have passed the 70,000 views mark on YouTube.  This is really exciting, especially considering that I racked up about 400 views since I checked yesterday, which is a lot more than average.  Most of the credit goes to the “Green Christmas” video that I posted on Sunday, with help from Jim.

So, once again, thank you to all who are watching and enjoying the sessions.  Please tell your friends about the Laptop Sessions!  Tell your relatives!  Tell your lovers!  Tell complete strangers!

Seriously, though, thanks for watching, and I look forward to learning some great songs for you as we roll into 2009.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Chris Moore’s 200th Subscriber

By Chris Moore:

Well, it’s happened…  I’ve finally reached a milestone on YouTube: my 200th subscriber!

I passed the 200 mark on my YouTube.com channel a few days ago, but it’s been a crazy week.  When I wasn’t at school planning, teaching, grading, and filling out paperwork, I was at home helping Jim pick out the perfect Christmas tree (if you’re a fan of symmetry, you’d agree!), recording Laptop Sessions, and watching TNA Impact! with the hope of possibly seeing Christian Cage’s triumphant return to the program.  That’s the question on my mind now: Is Christian staying with TNA?  Is he going back to WWE?  I’ve spent a considerable amount of time and energy searching this online, and there are some decent arguments (with somewhat shady and vague sources, mostly) for each side.  I’ll just have to wait and hope.  Truly, he’s one of the reasons I watch every week.  Even Sting, although he’s been there every week, has been in a transition period of sorts, having made friends of the bad guys.

Oh, well.  What was this post about again?  Oh, yeah…

I have 200 subscribers!  Thanks so much to all who have clicked that little “Subscribe” button above my YouTube channel icon.  I hope my videos continue to interest and entertain you!

Coming up next on the blog:  A WCJM announcement from yours truly, and then my Laptop Session of the day…
