Welcome to yet another Original Wednesday here on the Laptop Sessions with me, Jim Fusco! Tonight, I bring you one of my softer rock songs in “It’s You” from my “big” album “What About Today?”.
This song has a nice tune, but it’s really about the words…which tell you that it’s really not the words that make the song. Don’t really get it? Well, then you have to listen to the music video!
Actually, I’ve had a really bad couple of days and I’m more depressed than I’m letting on. But music always makes me feel better. The “truth” line really reminds me of a former friend that I used to work with. He probably doesn’t even know what he did to me, but I know…and unfortunately won’t forget it.
At least the blog’s doing well. I’m sorry this description couldn’t be longer, but we’re ready to play Risk and I’m prepared to globally dominate Chris for the ump-teenth time. Until Saturday- enjoy “It’s You”!
Tonight, it’s another Original Wednesday for me, Jim Fusco, where I play an original song from my now vast collection of well over 150. I’m excited about tonight’s, as it’s been one of my favorites since I wrote it back in 2002 or 2003. The original recorded version of this song, which you can listen to by clicking HERE, is rich with about ten of my voices singing in harmony. I even made a surround-sound version of this song with a music video, available by clicking HERE.
Everybody tells me that this is most “Beach Boys” sounding song I’ve written. And to tell you the truth, as with all of my songs, I didn’t write it with a specific style in mind. I never sit down and go, “Okay, Jim, time to write a Beach Boys song.” But, even I’ll admit that this is a Beach Boys-sounding song, especially with that interesting strumming pattern. It’s tough to play that and sing with it at the same time, but I’ve been playing this song for so long that I don’t even think about it anymore. This video was Take 1.
I wrote this song after my then-girlfriend (and now fiancee) Becky said the phrase “Happy Tears” and I found it so interesting that I put those words to this great tune that popped into my head one day. I think we were going through a time in our relationship where you’re thinking, “Man, I do NOT want to mess this up.” There’s always going to be issues to iron-out, and when you finally do, it’s almost hard to believe that everything worked out. But, looking back five years ago, it almost seems obvious that it would all work out.
Enjoy tonight’s Laptop Session and come back tomorrow for another great acoustic cover song by Chris Moore. Jeff will be back for a special Independence Day Session on Friday- will it be a patriotic song? I hope not- they’re always so cheesy. But, that’s my opinion. See you then!
Welcome to Original Wednesday here at the Laptop Sessions! It only comes but once every three weeks for me, so you know I’m going to make it a good one.
Tonight, I bring you an original song I wrote with the help of my fellow MoU (at http://jimfusco.com/albums.html ) bandmates for our latest album, “Homestead’s Revenge”. The album is GREAT, and you can listen to the whole thing for free on our website.
This song is track two off the album and follows a very interesting pattern. You might notice that the verse never comes back after the first round. It just has the chorus and middle instrumental parts play again and again. You almost don’t even notice it only has that one full verse until you stop and think about it.
I recorded this video last night. That is, I recorded this video BEFORE I made my huge discoveries pertaining to my original and cover songs videos.
First, I found a great program called iGlasses that allows me to manually control the iSight camera in my Macbook. It’s about time- I can’t stand when the camera just decides, “You know what, why don’t I just make it a lot darker for no reason?” Now, I’ll be able to control the exposure and brightness (plus white balance and color controls) BEFORE I record the video. This will save me time and, as we video professionals know, will make the end-result a lot nicer looking. It’s much more difficult to fix something in post-production than it is to do it right the first time around.
Second, I finally got my ZOOM H2 to record at the same time my iSight camera does!! You see, iMovie HD doesn’t give you the option to record using a different audio source. It just says “Record with iSight”.
Well, I went out to the main Apple preferences, switched the input in there, and presto- crystal clear sound without that incessantly loud fan noise that comes from the laptop.
But again, this was all learned AFTER I recorded the videos you’ll see from me for about the next month. BUT, at least we know great looking AND sounding video for me is on the horizon.
And the best part? I don’t have to do any extra work! 🙂
Thanks for watching and keep spreading the word about our great acoustic cover songs and original music!
Welcome to yet another “Original Wednesday” Session here with me, Jim Fusco!
This one kinda crept up on me today, and for the second time, Chris and I tried to do “The Game” off of my band MoU’s new album, “Homestead’s Revenge”. But, again, my voice wouldn’t hold out—for my own song! It’s been like this for about a month now and I don’t know how to make it better.
So, I reached way back into Jim Fusco lore to get this song off of my album, “Formula” from early 2003. You can listen to the entire album and purchase it here: http://jimfusco.com/albums/formula.html I tell ya, it sure seems like a lot longer ago than that- a lot has happened in only five years. I expect a whole lot more is coming in the next five years, as well.
I always remember my father pointing out that this was a good song- something about it caught his ear and I took note of his reaction.
I changed one line just for curiosity’s sake. If you’re an official Jim Fusco fan (no, not you Jeff, Chris, or Becky), then you’ll know which one. and if someone other than those three asks me, I will be happy to answer why I changed it for this version.
From an otherwise “okay” album that I don’t think has worn too well over five years, this song has always been a standout track for me, and I hope you agree.
Make sure to stay tuned as the Session a Day rolls on here in 2008!
Acoustic cover songs are what the Laptop Sessions music video blog is all about, but only to a certain extent. The three music artists signed to Fusco-Moore Productions, the production company that hosts the blog, love to listen to new music, particularly from their favorite artists. They love to feature that music and those artists on their music blog. New rock music, alternative music, indie music, and more is available in acoustic guitar music form on the Laptop Sessions free videos site, but the goal of the three artists is not simply to have people listen to their acoustic cover versions. Rather, these songwriters hope that, if you enjoy the covers – they try to record the best cover songs on the web! – then you will also enjoy their original music. Thus, every Wednesday on the video blog is Original Wednesday, a time for the boys of FMP to share unplugged music videos of the songs that they have spent time recording and promoting!
