Day 5 of 14 already!  Tonight, I bring you my version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”, loosely based in the style of the Beach Boys.  Mine has a bit more of a rock’n’roll style to it, but maintains the vocal style and instrumentation of the Beach Boys’ version.  This song has the most intricate instrument arrangement with the strings.  It was tough to get this one right, but I think the addition of the 12-string electric really put it over the top!

I hope you enjoy tonight’s selection — Day 6 is next in the series!  And, as always, these songs are completely FREE to download!  Just click on the down arrow icon to get your copy.

Hello, you night owls, and welcome to a very late Day 4 of Jim Fusco’s 14 Days of Rock’n’Roll Christmas!

Today, I bring you a great tune: “Don’t Need A Reindeer” by the Moody Blues.  They came out with this song in the early 2000’s and I truly believe it’s the best Christmas song in the past 40 years!  It’s got a great beat and such a catchy tune.  I can’t believe it doesn’t get more airtime.

So, I decided to make my own version.  It took a while to get the synth sounds right, but I think I got it pretty close.  The harmonies were easy, but the times to sing them (they come in and out) was the really tricky part.

If you haven’t heard “Don’t Need A Reindeer” yet, I think you’ll really like it.  And if you have heard it before, I hope my version lives up to the original!  Have a good one — Day 5 is next in the series!  Remember, all of these Christmas songs are FREE to download- just click the down arrow icon.

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 3 of Jim Fusco’s 14 Day of Rock’n’Roll Christmas!  We keep it rolling tonight with my favorite Christmas song- “Little Saint Nick” by the Beach Boys!  This song is one of the few Christmas songs that I think holds up as one of the band’s better early songs.  It’s tough to describe, but think of any other artist and think of their Christmas hit.  Like “Wonderful Christmastime” by Paul McCartney.  That’s not a great song, really.  But, I like “Little Saint Nick” right up there with the rest of the Beach Boys’ early hits.  Maybe it’s just me, but then again, I’m a superman!

The complete 14-song series is in the archive — enjoy the free downloads!

Enjoy “Little Saint Nick”!

“Christmas Vacation” by Jim Fusco – FREE mp3 Download – Day 2 of 14

Welcome to Day 2 of Jim Fusco’s Rock’n’Roll Christmas!  I think you’ll all agree that getting a brand-new recording of a Christmas song you can download for FREE is MUCH better than getting a couple of turtle doves.  I mean, what do you even feed those things??

Today’s song is a unique one- it’s a cover of Mavis Staples’ “Christmas Vacation” that she recorded for the movie, “Christmas Vacation”, one of the absolute classics.  In fact, we just had our yearly watching of this movie the other night with our friends Bob and Sue.  Of course I have the high-definition Blu-Ray version.  I just had to see Clark Griswold fall off that ladder in glorious HD!

I actually noticed that Mavis Staples sings a different final verse in the version that begins the movie.  I chose to go with the version from the soundtrack, which is the one I’ve been listening to for about ten years now.  Over at WCJM Free Internet Radio, we actually named our final Christmas show after the movie and featured this song!

I hope you enjoy tonight’s song.  I think I did a pretty good job of recreating the sound without going too late-80s (like the original).  This was a fun one to do and really stretched out my vocal chords.  And you KNOW I did it in the original key. 🙂  Take care, everyone — and enjoy the rest of the series!
