“Choose Your Words (Carefully)” (Original song by Jim Fusco) – The Open Mic Sessions

By Jim Fusco:

Welcome, everyone, to the first installment of the Open Mic Sessions, where I’ll bring you my performances of my original songs from various open mic nights.  The video will be a bit choppy, the sound won’t be perfect, and there usually aren’t too many people in the crowd, but it’s been a lot of fun for me to do these, so I wanted to share my original song performances with the world!

Today’s video is of my song, “Choose Your Words (Carefully)” from my 2012 album, “Those Around Us”.  I think I’ve received a great response to this song every time I play it live.  People either relate to the words…or just find the chorus catchy. 🙂  Either way, it’s been one of my favorites to play and is always the standby song for when someone says, “Play one more!”

This video was taken by my brother Mike at Sam Ash music store in New Haven, CT on April 3rd, 2013.  As you can probably tell, there wasn’t much of a crowd…but the staff sure seemed to like it!  Sometimes, even if there isn’t a big audience, it’s still cool to hear your original song amplified like that.  There’s something empowering about that.

I hope you enjoy tonight’s video and stay tuned each week for more videos from the Open Mic Sessions!

“Nobody” (MoU Original Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

That’s right – it is the best day of the week.  A day where you can hear something from the Fusco-Moore library.  As promised on Sunday, I present you with…well, more than a Jim Fusco song.  It’s actually a Chris Moore, Jim Fusco, and Mike Fusco song.  Heh – finally I get to do a song that has Chris Moore in the credits.

It is from their MoU EP “Meaningless” (check it out on Jim’s website here), a song called “Nobody”.  The song, like every song on this EP, has a double meaning (or, a “meaningless” meaning).  Short and sweet, this song was originally conceived on the piano.  I decided it needed the guitarbucketlist.com acoustic treatment, and covered it on my acoustic.

Of course, I also made a couple other changes that only Chris, Jim, and Mike may notice.  Well, you may notice it too if you have listened to the EP!

Make sure you come back all week, where Jim and Chris will post their latest acoustic cover videos, and on Saturday you will see me cover my third Pink Floyd song – also by request.  If you’ve been paying attention to recent posts, you can probably guess which song it’ll be.

Enjoy today’s original, and come back tomorrow for the next Jim Fusco pick.  You may notice he’ll look a bit scared, because he knows who will be crushing him in a homerun derby on Friday.

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and origianal music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“The One For Me” (Chris Moore original) – Original Wednesday

By Chris Moore:

Welcome to September, a truly promising month for new music from the likes of Steven Page, Ben Folds, and Weezer!

Today, I’m taking a break from our regularly scheduled Original Wednesday program of previews from The 2010 Project to bring you a song I just wrote last week.

Specifically, a song I wrote on Monday of last week.

You may be wondering, why Monday?  Well, August 23rd — aside from being my friend and sometimes-collaborator Alberto Distefano’s birthday — marked the fifth anniversary of my first date with my girlfriend Nicole.  Because we broke up for three months in late 2008, we’ve decided to officially celebrate our anniversary on the day we got back together for the first time, January 2nd.  (I’m personally a fan of this date for all its implications of the new year, fresh beginnings, resolutions to be made, and all the promise this invokes.  And, although it’s only a week after Christmas, the original date was only a week before her birthday, so proximity to other occasions is not a factor.)

Thus, August 23rd has become the anniversary that we’ve promised to honor, but without monetary expense in the name of gifts.

We never said anything about not spending time to make something like, say, a song!

I spent the better part of my morning last Monday writing, playing, and perfecting “The One For Me.”  It is one of the — if not the — best love songs I’ve written, in my opinion.  And, for those that don’t know, my opinion is that my love songs are generally sub-par.  The version which you will hear in the video below is the first full performance I committed to tape last week.  I’ve been playing it numerous times each day since and it has progressed considerably from the form it is in on this session.

Why post an out-of-date version?

For one, I like the idea of showing off a fresh song, without having practiced it or worked on it.  What is Original Wednesday, after all, if it is not a place to celebrate the writing process?  In addition, I’m trying to imagine a spot for this song on The 2010 Project, so it may show up there.  If it does, you will hopefully be able to tell how much it has progressed since this video.  (And, it will have turned out that today is indeed another installment of the preview series.)

So, without further ado, I give you “The One For Me.”  I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you’ll tune back in for more exciting new material here at the Laptop Sessions as we move into the fall season.

See you next session!

“Pack Your Love” (Indie Music – New Music)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to your latest version of Original Wednesday. Today I am playing a song from Jim Fusco’s album “What About Today?” called “Pack Your Love” (please visit http://jimfusco.com for more info).

This song is usually played as the back end of two songs in live shows, being preceded by another Jim Fusco-Chris Moore duo-penned song “Where Are We Now?”.

I have always liked this song because it has a great set of lyrics, and the chorus and chord progression are very addictive.

I am also looking forward VERY much to Jim’s upcoming album “Halfway There”. Knowing Jim as long as I have, I know it’s going to be a great work, and I know my future self is already tuning out in the office to the title track.

As always, Laptop Session-a-day continues! I just broke 5k views today in record time! I expect 6k to come even faster! Thank you to everyone who is watching and supporting our series!
