“Last Kiss” (Wayne Cochran Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to Tremendous Tuesday!  It’s so good, it’s “like a potential delay or closing tomorrow because of inclement weather” good.

Today I continue my romp of classic songs that have been covered more recently.  Chances are you’ll think that Pearl Jam is the composer of the song “Last Kiss”, but if you do your research you’ll know it is a cover of a song that’s over 40 years old!  It was actually written by Wayne Cochran, but he didn’t get a lot of publicity for the song.  It took his song being covered a few times for the song to be successful.

This is among the easiest songs one can learn to play.  I remember teaching this to one of my friends’ cousins at a guitar lesson.  If you can play a G, Em, C, D progression, then congratulations you can wham out this song!

I had an incredibly busy day today, so i’m going to keep this brief.  But short posts doesn’t mean a subpar video!  The video itself came out well, and my voice “naturally” scratched during the higher notes, and it is really effective for this song that it happened.  I think it is still an after effect of my voice still recovering from last week.

But Jim “Like an entire Christmas Village playing the same thing at once in their minature houses so it comes out peaceful and awesome” Fusco will be supplying us with an original tune tomorrow.  I have a hunch at what it could be (if he hasn’t played it already), but chances are it will be a song I haven’t heard yet.

See you then!

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and original music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“Miracle” (Foo Fighters Cover)

By Jeff:

Good evening and welcome to Thumpin’ Thursday!  I hope you are well and looking forward to a nice weekend.

Today I bring a song by the Foo Fighters called “Miracle”.  The song is among their more soft and acoustic album cuts of late.  It really shows off their instrumentation skills as well as Dave Grohl’s versatile vocal abilities.

I feel sad saying it, but I do have to let you know what’s going on.  First good news – whether you knew it or not but in a couple of weeks my life is going to change forever.  Sadly, it is this reason that I am going to have to downgrade myself to “contributer” (which is kind of what I am already anyway).  I won’t be able to post every Thursday, and there is no way of telling when Thursday comes around in the future whether I can post or not.  When I can I will, but to be honest, there will be a handful of things that can prevent me from posting.  I don’t want to be specific, but those who know me know what i’m talking about.

I have enjoyed being a regular contributor to the site for nearly 2 years now, and have recorded over 160 videos and amassed 170k in views (and rising at about 300-350 views/day).  I know that this number won’t stop increasing even if my production of videos slows down.

I want to thank everyone that has visited this blog regularly in the past 2 years, and I want to thank Chris and Jim for bringing me along for the ride.  It is amazing to look back at where we were when this blog started, and what our mission was.  I’d say we have done a pretty good job of getting a following, and I hope you bring nothing but support and joy when you read our blog.

With that said, I will see you next week ideally with another video.  If you have things you wish to pass along to me, please send me a private message or comment here.

“Chinese Sleep Chant” (Coldplay Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Assistant Editor’s note (that’s Jeff): I am in the process of re-embedding some Laptop Sessions videos that I still have.  This post was originally from 2009, but for history’s sake I have not edited the post.

And continuing from last week’s post is the song that is followed by the one I covered last week.

Now, I know that i’ve covered a bunch of Coldplay songs, and quite a few from Viva La Vida, but there’s a good reason.  Everybody loves this band.  They write catchy songs, and enjoy performing and love their fans.  How can I not want to cover this band?

This song is more of an instrumental than a lyrical song, but the lyrics are present and sung.  I initially wanted to perform this with my electric guitar hooked up to my bass amp.  However, I hit a few snags.  1) My electric strings are kind of old.  2) The bridge of the guitar sticks out of the base of the guitar a bit, making the strings a bit further from the fretboard, and therefore more difficult to play.  3) The amp is meant for bass, and I could not find a good combination of settings that made my guitar sound like a guitar.

However, practicing the song on the electric proved helpful, as it made it a lot easier to play on the acoustic.  Funny how that works sometimes.

This video came out great.  I’m very proud of this cover.

I have reached my first milestone post 100K views and hit 110K views.  I’m nearing 500 views per day on my videos, and I can’t wait to tell you when I am averaging 1K views per day.  It could happen before the year is out!

“Cemeteries of London” (Coldplay Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Good evening and thank you for visiting guitarbucketlist.com on this Thumpin’ Thursday.  I bring you another popular band on this site for your enjoyment this evening.

I’m trying to perform some more songs this year that are not singles (or are not yet singles), and tonight is one of them.  From Coldplay’s recent album “Viva La Vida”, I bring you “Cemeteries of London”.  I really enjoy this album, and later in the year I plan on taking on a more involved song from this same album – and no, it’s not a single either.

Tomorrow the new semester begins, and I have worked all day to get things ready for it.  I am most excited to be teaching Physics this coming semester, as well as the classic Earth Science that I have taught six times in the past 2 years.

Also, I am approaching 80K views.  This will most likely happen tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy today’s entry!  Stay tuned as we continue to bring you sessions in 2009!
