“Learning To Fly” (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Good evening, and welcome to your Sunday edition of The Laptop Sessions. I’ve got another great song to add to our growing library, and it’s our 2nd song from Tom Petty.

From his 1991 album “Into the Great Wide Open”, the song I have performed is “Learning To Fly”. While simple, the song has been popular since the album’s release. The song has a great set of lyrics and is about a time that Tom saw an interview of a pilot, who said “Learning to fly is easy, but coming down is the hard part”, hence the chorus inspiration.

I hope that if you are in the CT area that you will come see me perform with Masters of the Universe this coming Wednesday! We are playing all kinds of songs and we had a practice session at my condo today. My fingers look like they are blowing bubbles, after practicing on the bass for 3 hours today w/ Chris, Jim, and Mike.

Stay tuned tomorrow for another great session by Jim.

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and origianal music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” (The Monkees Cover)

By Jim Fusco:

Welcome to your Friday edition of the Laptop Sessions with me, Jim Fusco!

Today, I’m doing a great tune written by Neil Diamond, but performed by the Monkees, “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You”. Not only does this song have a great message (like “it’s not all my fault, but SOME of it is”), but has a catchy tune and chord progression.

Actually, it’s that classic 3-chord Neil Diamond style, just shifted up a few frets on a capo.

I hope you like my whistling solo in the middle there! 🙂

BIG things are happening at Fusco-Moore Productions and I hope you’ll visit the blog (and our newly completed other suite of websites) today!

“Everything I Need” (Wallflowers Covers) – Triple Threat Tuesday

By Jim Fusco:

Welcome to another Triple Threat Tuesday edition of the Laptop Sessions, as Jeff, Chris, and I all bring you this great tune from the Wallflowers- “Everything I Need”.

It’s funny how much I love “Red Letter Days” but never could get into any of their other albums. I love the hooks and the rockin’ sound on that album- I’ll be doing other songs off of it soon including my favorite: “How Good It Can Get”.

We’re going to see the Wallflowers for the first time in a few weeks- check the blog at https://guitarbucketlist.com to read our reviews of the concert!

I did this song in ONE take- which is a very rare occurrence. I’ve always liked how simple this song is, but still incredibly catchy.

I have SO many songs I can’t wait to premiere for everyone, as I’ve been trying to get as many Sessions done as possible so I can continue work on my two new album projects.

These videos are only three in a series of acoustic cover songs here on the Fusco-Moore Productions Blog.

Jeff’s Version is unfortunately no longer on YouTube…but here’s:

Chris’ Version

“Let Us Go On This Way” (Beach Boys Cover)

By Jim Fusco:

Okay, tonight’s song goes out by request, as there’s been an outcry for songs from “Love You”, the Beach Boys album that’s lauded as one of Brian Wilson’s most personal efforts, especially after the “Pet Sounds” period. Next week’s Beach Boys song will be another from this album: “The Night Was So Young”.

This song, “Let Us Go On This Way”, is a rockin’ tune that starts off the album. Carl Wilson’s great vocals and crazy synthesizers are notable parts of the original.

This was a lot of fun to do acoustically, and I’ve always loved the message of this song. It’s unfortunate that the band really didn’t “go on that way” much longer after this album. Dennis died a few years later, and before that, they started becoming the “greatest hits band” they are today. At least Brian Wilson is still keeping the faith and making (great) new music now!

I hope you all enjoy this and I hope you’ll rate it!
