“Too Little Too Late” (Barenaked Ladies Cover)

We finally come to one of my absolute favorite bands of all time: Barenaked Ladies. I originally got into the band after hearing their song “Brian Wilson”.

I have every album from BNL, know every word to every song–a real fanatic. I think Steven Page is the best song writer of my generation, even though he is about 15 years older than me.

This song starts off their album “Maroon”, one of my favorites from them that I played about 100 times in a row. This song is much more “electric” on the album, but I think it stands up well as an acoustic because of the lyrical content.

There will be PLENTY more videos from BNL to come, so if you love any of their songs, don’t hesitate to make a request!!

“Days of Wonder” (Wallflowers Cover)

This song comes per request from Dylan81 on Youtube.

I’m going for the hat trick on Wallflowers songs, and doing the album opener from “Rebel, Sweetheart” called “Days of Wonder”. It is a terrific opening song full of cheer, reflection, the usual writing of Jakob Dylan.

This song has a driving beat that is difficult to reproduce on the acoustic guitar, and I have only learned how to play this song for 24 hours now. Still, this version is nice and cool. I hope you enjoy it.

This also represents my first non-quick capture attempt at these videos. All i’ve figured out so far is how to cut off the “hitting the stop button” part at the end, and I got text at the beginning. As far as the song is concerned, I like how it turned out, but from now on i’ll try to increase the lighting in the room – especially when filming at night.

“When We Was Fab” (A George Harrison Cover)

I’m proud to bring you another installment of The Laptop Sessions, and I also want to show my classic rock side as well.

Today’s installment is from George Harrison, who coincidentally Jim did a song from yesterday. This is one of his more known songs. The double meaning in this song is a terrific one that any Beatles fan will tell you about.

This song is tough to play on acoustic – let alone sing along to as well. Hopefully you will enjoy my effort.

Late Night Video Blog – A Songwriter at Work!

So what the heck is the newest member doing up at 2:18 a.m. on a blog that just started?

No, i’m sober.

Yes, i’m nuts.

No seriously i’m really trying it out to make sure i’m able to post. If you’re reading this, then another mission accomplished.

I’ve been working in my not-so-aethestically pleasing studio on another track for Greenlight. I have a terrific audio picture of what I am doing for this song, and I got to mess around with guitars and a bit of vocals lastnight. My wife came down with me and snapped some photos of me at work. I’m posting the vocal picture on this entry because – well, it goes to show when we at FMP record our singing, we aren’t a bunch of stiffs in front of that microphone.

I’m not looking at a furnace and water heater – i’m envisioning the five fans bobbing their head in time with the bluesy beat.

Told you I was nuts.

And you can tell from the background – I can’t wait to get to that putting up corkboard ceiling and a nice non-load-bearing wall in front of said appliances.

But seriously I look forward to recording most of the guitars and vocals for this song soon, and I have another 3 songs to start recording. I am so excited that music is coming naturally to me again.

Also, Jim, Chris, and myself are already plotting “Jamnation 2: the search for more listeners.”

Ok fine, we’ll probably just stick with “Jamnation 2”. Why can’t album sequels work like movie sequels.

Hopefully soon I can procure a webcam and contribute to the laptop sessions. There are lots of cover songs that can use the FMP touch, and I want to do my “part” (come on musicians – laugh!)
