“Back to California” (Wallflowers Cover)

By Chris Moore:

Seeing as how the Wallflowers are coming to town tonight, I thought it only appropriate to play one of my favorite tunes off their most recent album, Rebel, Sweetheart. If you are hearing “Back to California” here for the first time, please find and listen to the album version. The real version is one of the most rocking songs I’ve ever heard from Jakob Dylan and the boys.

I recorded more takes of this cover song music video than I should have, in my desire to recreate it acoustically and yet maintain the same spirit of the studio recording. Just like “Everything I Need,” this was certainly a vocal workout–this time, not because of the range but due to the emotion/inflection I tried to achieve while my allergies are in full swing…

Well, I’m really excited about going to see the Wallflowers show at Foxwoods tonight with Jim and Mike. This is one of my all-time favorite bands, and because they tour so infrequently these days, I was afraid I would never get to see them.

We’ll definitely report back on the Wallflowers show. For now, I hope you enjoy the acoustic cover song music video — I hope you’ll rate it and/or leave a comment.

See you next session!

P.S. I can’t wait to hear more new tracks from Jakob Dylan’s upcoming solo album, Seeing Things! Maybe they’ll translate into some new acoustic covers for the Laptop Sessions music video blog soon… 🙂

“Empire in My Mind” (Wallflowers Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to your Thumpin’ Thursday edition of the Laptop Sessions! I bring you yet another song from the Wallflowers, and one that not everyone is going to catch.

The song is “Empire in My Mind”, which is a bonus track from their album “Red Letter Days”. It is a solidly written song as well. While simple as well, it remains a favorite of mine.

The Laptop Sessions continue the trek through 2008 for a Session a day! Stay tuned for my next video on Sunday, and then my next edition of Original Wednesday, where you will get to hear a world premiere from my upcoming album!

I hope you are enjoying the Laptop Sessions!

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and original music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“When You’re On Top” (Wallflowers Cover)

By Chris Moore:

Hello and welcome to the next installment of “Track One Week” at https://guitarbucketlist.com ! Today, I’m taking a temporary break from playing songs from new artists to play track one off of one of my favorite albums of all-time, “Red Letter Days.” This is the Wallflowers’ “When You’re On Top.”

For anyone who has heard the studio version before, you may miss the synthesized effects, but all I had was my acoustic guitar, so I made due with what I had… And this should help me to prepare for Jakob Dylan’s new album, “Seeing Things,” which is going to be a very acoustic affair (judging from tracks he’s already released, such as “Something Good This Way Comes,” which I hope to record in the near future!).

I hope you enjoy this video, and I especially hope you’ll stop by tomorrow for an all-new track-one selection from our very own Jeff Copperthite!

See you next session!

“Everybody Out of the Water” (Wallflowers Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Good evening, and welcome to The Laptop Sessions for Monday, July 7th. Today’s song is dedicated to the youtube user who sent me a message simply asking “Why haven’t you done a Wallflowers song lately?”. Well, I aim to please, so here you go!

Today’s song is from The Wallflowers, from their album “Red Letter Days” (my personal favorite of thiers). We have covered songs from this album before, but given that each song is awesome, there’s no reason we can’t cover another! And the song is “Everybody Out of the Water”, which is unlike any other song on the album. It’s the 4th track, and the song before it is the soft piano medley “Closer to You”. That song and this song are the two extremes on the album. This is meant to be an angry song, and even though this song sounds best with the electric distorted guitar, I think the acoustic cover that I present to you is just as effective.

Stay tuned tomorrow for Jim’s next awesome song. I hope you enjoyed today’s session and continue to enjoy the sessions overall!
