“Your Love” (The Outfield Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to a fun Friday edition of the Sessions.  I’ve got a song going out by request of Ninja Don.  And we can all thank him that a new band has arrived to our long list of videos.

Before I write my “official” post, I just want to pause to reflect on what we have accomplished this year.  Between the three of us, we have nearly 250,000 views on Youtube, our site visits continue to get more frequent, and all three of us have some notoriety (be it positive or negative) in our respective workplaces, neighborhoods, and with our friends.  Between the three of us, we have over 300 videos (perhaps over 400, but over 300 from this year alone) that continue to attract viewers to the site.  But as Jim mentioned in a earlier post, I look forward to the time next year when our day to post will be a complete enjoyment, rather than a “I have to get my video up because it’s my day to do so” event.

Well, anyway, I’ve got a song that was a hit in 1985, reaching 6 on the Billboard charts.  This song is from a British Pop/Rock band called The Outfield.  Their 1985 album was called “Play Deep”, and the song I am covering is called “Your Love”.  As mentioned, this song is going out by request, because at some point every morning during 1st Period Prep, Don just has to break this tune out.

I just hope he doesn’t start breaking out MY version instead.

Well, if he did, then that means he likes it.

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t really like to talk politics all that much.  I, however, have been following the ongoing discussion that is taking place on Jim’s video from Wednesday.  I am not going to offer my thoughts or feelings on it simply because that’s not a good topic of conversation for me.  However, that being said, I am very hopeful that the President-elect will live up to his billing – both from him and his supporters.

I hope that you enjoy today’s cover song, and come back tomorrow for Jim’s next awesome cover song – as we continue around turn 4 to the finish line for Session-A-Day ’08!

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and origianal music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“Miracle” (Foo Fighters Cover)

By Jeff:

Good evening and welcome to Thumpin’ Thursday!  I hope you are well and looking forward to a nice weekend.

Today I bring a song by the Foo Fighters called “Miracle”.  The song is among their more soft and acoustic album cuts of late.  It really shows off their instrumentation skills as well as Dave Grohl’s versatile vocal abilities.

I feel sad saying it, but I do have to let you know what’s going on.  First good news – whether you knew it or not but in a couple of weeks my life is going to change forever.  Sadly, it is this reason that I am going to have to downgrade myself to “contributer” (which is kind of what I am already anyway).  I won’t be able to post every Thursday, and there is no way of telling when Thursday comes around in the future whether I can post or not.  When I can I will, but to be honest, there will be a handful of things that can prevent me from posting.  I don’t want to be specific, but those who know me know what i’m talking about.

I have enjoyed being a regular contributor to the site for nearly 2 years now, and have recorded over 160 videos and amassed 170k in views (and rising at about 300-350 views/day).  I know that this number won’t stop increasing even if my production of videos slows down.

I want to thank everyone that has visited this blog regularly in the past 2 years, and I want to thank Chris and Jim for bringing me along for the ride.  It is amazing to look back at where we were when this blog started, and what our mission was.  I’d say we have done a pretty good job of getting a following, and I hope you bring nothing but support and joy when you read our blog.

With that said, I will see you next week ideally with another video.  If you have things you wish to pass along to me, please send me a private message or comment here.

“King of Comedy” (REM Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to thumpin’ Thursday, the first post in which my view count is in the 6 digits!  I have a great song from REM for tonight’s session.

I have lately wanted to really take the time to cover the songs that I have wanted to cover and that I enjoy covering.  However, if you have a request please feel free to request it!  I love doing requests, but if I get none I just fall back on the songs and bands that I like.

I have always loved the album this song is off of.  I pretty much have each song memorized.

I hope you enjoy this album cut, and see you next week for more fun!

“Please Stay” (Indie Music by Songwriter Chris Moore)

By Chris Moore:

Welcome back for an all-new recording on guitarbucketlist.com! If you’ve been here before, then you probably know that today is “Original Wednesday,” and it’s my pleasure to bring you one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, titled “Please Stay.”

I wrote this song a while back as a contribution for Masters of the Universe. My bandmate, Jim Fusco, helped me refine the chord structure and added in an incredible duo of guitar solos — that’s right, two distinct solos in one song! (If MoU ever releases Homestead’s Revenge, the fully-produced version will be on it.)

Of course, this is an acoustic performance, and you’ll hear the rarely-used third verse that replaces the second solo. I’ve never been entirely happy with the third verse, so I’ve amended it a bit for this recording. Without further ado, “Please Stay”!

P.S. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for an all-new Laptop Session by Jeff!
