“Breakfast at Tiffanys” (Deep Blue Something Cover)

Welcome to your first video installment of Thumpin’ Thursday! It’s Jeff coming at you this evening with a new band tonight.

This song is sort of a one-hit wonder from a band called “Deep Blue Something”. You should recognize the song almost immediately because it was widely played on the radio in the mid 90’s. I even vaguely remember watching a video of this song.

It’s a very easy song to play too: The verse is D G A, and the chorus is D A G.

I apologize for the tersely written post this evening. We’re right in the middle of final exam season at school. The next time I posted, I was a science teacher for the remainder of the year.

Can…it…be? A new Jeff Copperthite laptop sessions video?

Ok cool, I mean he’s got a lot to upload still from his files.

But wait, there’s something different.

He looks a lot older…and well, it must be his Irish blood that is causing him to age like a raisin.

But in all seriousness, yes this is a brand new video that I sat down and recorded today. It is a cover of one of my favorite bands the Foo Fighters and from their first album titled “Oh, George”. It is one of the later songs on the album. The album itself was always in my rotation in high school and it is so easy to just listen to it from start to finish.

Technical notes are as follows. I decided to try recording it on my tablet to see how the video quality is. I had to use a bit lower light than I wanted because if I had used more, the recording video would flicker. Further, once I uploaded the video, it is not a full frame video. The audio quality is solid, however. I think I will be going back to my Powershot for future recordings.

As I mentioned to Jim today, lately all I have wanted to learn as far as new songs go are Foo Fighters songs.. The next song will be off their 2nd album “The Colour and the Shape”
I was at Jim’s release party last night for his new CD “The Easy Ways”. It is an amazing album per Jim’s usual standard. He has managed to top himself yet again. Pick it up now – best $10 ever!

“Breaking The Girl” (Red Hot Chili Peppers Cover)

Welcome to ANOTHER NEW BAND here on the Sessions!  It’s time for a band we have wrongfully neglected on the site, and among the greatest Alternative rock acts of all time.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers!

From their awesome album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” is their 2nd single “Breaking The Girl”, which is a fun tune to belt out on the acoustic.  The guitar part is very well orchestrated and brings out the emotion of the song.

I am using a capo for this song, but Chili Pepper purists will be the first to tell me that it’s not supposed to be played with a capo.  Well, it CAN be played with a capo, and I did.  So there.

We got to go to Fusco Moore Studios for the recording of the 10th anniversery show — you know i was all over that.

And the next day, Jim came out of post-production hiding to give us another great acoustic cover!

“Extra Pale” (Goo Goo Dolls Cover)

This is the second time thsi year that i’ve been unable to post because of health reasons.  Earlier in the year (near the start of this project) I had food poisoning that put me out of my scheduled day, and last week I felt a cold coming on.  I got around that by posting an instrumental (that a lot of people liked, which was good), but on Thursday, I could barely talk.  How I taught this past week is beyond me.  Even today my voice is not 100%.

But the posts must go on.  And therefore, i’m making up for lost time by posting 4/7 of the days of this week!

And yes, I used a fraction.

Today I’ve got an obscure album cut from The Goo Goo Dolls’ album “Dizzy Up The Girl”, which is called “Extra Pale”.  One thing i’ve always been amazed by is that every single this band has released has had their guitarist Johnny Rzeznik singing the song.  The people who do not own any GGD albums will think Johnny is lead singer/guitarist.  However, the bassist Robby also sings on many of the tracks and writes or co-writes as well.  This is one of those songs.  Robby’s songs are also shorter than most of the other songs.  This may be the shortest video i’ve ever done!

I tried my best to sing this song, but as you will hear my voice is not 100%.  I decided to throw in that caution in the beginning because I would worry people think I sound like that all the time!  It works for this song because it’s a naturally lower register.
