“Two Coins” (Dispatch Cover)

By Pat Noonan:

Dispatch has been one of my favorite acoustic bands since the first time I heard The General back in high school. So a couple hours ago I found myself dying to record an acoustic cover because my good friend/producer Peter Dupre lent me his beautiful Taylor guitar, which sounds too sweet not to record. So I tossed up some mics, slapped the camera on a tripod, and attempted to do a better job at providing sufficient light for the flip mino to do it’s thing. Anyway hope you like it, if you haven’t already you got listen to the Dispatch album Bang Bang, it’s a classic.

It’s with great pleasure that I welcome the latest guest performer to the Laptop Sessions blog: Mr. Pat Noonan!  He has sent several videos my way recently, and I knew instantly that it wouldn’t be a question of whether or not to feature him on the site, but rather which video to choose.

When I read his YouTube description for this cover, I felt this would be a great introduction to the Guest Sessions for him.  I hope you’ll enjoy his performance as much as I did, and check back soon… there’s sure to be another Pat Noonan guest session appearance soon!

“Give Me Novacaine” (Green Day Cover)

We need more Guest Sessions submissions! So, sit down, pull up your acoustic guitar and camera, post the video on YouTube, and CLICK HERE!

Another Friday, and another Guest Session!  For this week, we took a look back into the archive of Guest Sessions submissions and found a second song from our very first “Guest” player, Andrew E.  His debut on the Laptop Sessions music video cover blog was on January 9th of this year with Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Comes,” a track from Green Day’s American Idiot album.

Well, he also sent us more of a “deep track” from the album, a fan favorite for some of the Green Day faithful.  This is “Give Me Novacaine” from American Idiot.  You’ll hear the name “Jimmy” mentioned in the song.  You may ask, who is that?  Because American Idiot is a concept album, all of the tracks link together in both theme and plotline of a story.  If you listen to the album, you’ll learn the entire story of this boy named St. Jimmy, a rock freedom fighter of sorts.

If you’re interested you should check it out… because I definitely don’t have room here to explain just now!  For now, here’s Andrew E.’s preview:

I Love Green Day. I’ve been listening to them since 03. More importantly, playing guitar has been a big part of my life. I got my first guitar from my grandpa when I was 5. Since then, I’ve been consistently trying to improve my playing. It’s more than a hobby, its a part of me.

Enjoy the session!

“I Don’t Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)” (Bob Dylan electric cover) [Ep 2, Fall 2011]

By Federico Borluzzi:

A cover of Bob Dylan’s ”I Don’t Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)” from his Another Side Of Bob Dylan LP (1964). Played with electric guitar and harmonica in the key of D.

[Editor’s Note: It is my great pleasure to add this electric cover song music video to the blog from our friend Federico.  It has been a great while since our previous season of Guest Sessions aired, but clearly Federico hasn’t slacked off in his devotion to the guitar, harmonica, or singing in the meantime.  This is, without a doubt, the best Dylan cover I’ve heard from him, and in all honesty, I’m downright jealous of his note-perfect performance.  So, without further ado, I leave you to watch his music video, and I doubt you’ll only watch it once.]

“Bathtub Gin” (Phish Cover)

By Jeremy Hammond:

I recently had to take my acoustic/electric into the shop to get it looked at, since the “electric” half of it wasn’t working, and a Made in the U.S.A. Fender Strat was hanging on the wall.  I couldn’t resist.  I took it home (yes, I paid for it first).  It feels great and has great tone and sustain, even out of my tiny little amp.  So here’s “Bathtub Gin” by Phish.  I laid down the rhythm and vocals first (single take), and then laid the solo over that track.  This is a fun tune and I love the solo melody, particularly when played on my new ax.

** EDITOR’S NOTE: **

Our favorite perennial format bending, Phish-covering Guest Sessions contributor is back, and this time, he’s brought a new guitar purchase to his cover song music video.  We hope that your Friday may be a little brighter for this great, groovy rendition of a Phish deep track, originally recorded for their 1990 album Lawn Boy.
