“Turn the Page” (Bob Seger Cover)

By Chris Moore:

Hello, all, and welcome to a little thing we like to call Chris Moore Monday!  I must admit, it’s weird, but pretty cool to have a day assigned to you.  It wasn’t so cool when I came home tired and not feeling all that well from work today and realized that it was, indeed, my day to post a video.

But, I did what any of us here at the Laptop Sessions would do — I took a deep breath, glanced at our list of bands that have yet to be covered, and started practicing.

Today, I bring you Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page.”  Listening to the songs from his greatest hits tonight really brought back some memories for me.  My father had a Bob Seger greatest hits cassette tape and played it often when I was younger.  Songs like “Roll Me Away,” “Night Moves,” and “Mainstreet” really take me back.  I love these songs; they may not be my favorites of all time, but they’re great fun to listen to.

And I learned tonight that another song I’ve always liked — “Turn the Page” — was actually covered by Metallica.  I found their music video online; it’s an interesting one, to say the least.  I really did like the Metallica version, but I of course enjoy Seger’s original version the most.

I hope you like my video — if nothing else, I hope I’ve been able to remind you of one more artist and one more song that you may have forgotten in the crazy rush that is everyday life and modern radio.

That’s it for me.  I’m off to fall asleep to the sounds of Golden Smog, a band I will cover soon for the blog.  However, I need to wait on that for a while and record some more well-known artists (such as Bob Seger).  After all, I’m still making up for last week’s Chris Moore Monday choice of the 70’s band Big Star.

WHO?  I know; that was my reaction, too.  But they’re great!

Don’t forget to hurry back for another amazing cover song music video on Jim Fusco Tuesday at the Laptop Sessions music blog…

See you next session!

“Wonderwall” (Oasis Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to your wonderful Monday edition of The Laptop Sessions!

Wait, did I use the words “wonderful” and “Monday” in the same sentence?  Why, yes I did!

I woke up this morning to the awesome news of there being a 90 minute delay to the start of my school day.  Always good news to wake up too.  Then, all I had to do today was finish one lesson I started Thursday, and give a quiz to two classes (one of which was very adamant in not taking the quiz today, despite the multiple times I mentioned to them Thursday that the quiz would take place on the next school day).

Well, despite that, I close out today with a great new band to add to our session library.  It’s a band that has been around for almost 20 years now.  The band is Oasis, and today’s song is possibly their most popular song called “Wonderwall”.

Here’s a song that i’ve known how to play for some time.  One thing that always bugged me is a person I used to know (was a boyfriend of a family member) who also played a cover of this song, but repeated the verse chords throughout the whole song, and couldn’t realize the fact he was doing it wrong!  Ugh, it was hard sitting through that.

So i’m glad I can provide you with a solid version of the song tonight.  It’s one of my better videos, despite my forgetting the 4th and 5th words of the final chorus.  Oops.

But regardless, it’s here for you and I hope you enjoy it.  I’ll be back for your holiday edition of The Laptop Sessions (my first one of the year ironically) on Thursday.  Each of us has 3 videos to go for the year!

Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, Jeff’s acoustic cover song music videos are no longer on YouTube, but we decided to keep his cover song blog posts up.  We figured these music blog entries would be good for posterity’s sake and because Jeff always gave such insightful posts each Session.  We hope to see Jeff’s impressive catalog of acoustic rock songs here on the Laptop Sessions cover songs and origianal music blog again in the future.  But, for now, please make sure to check-out hundreds of other acoustic cover songs from all of your favorite bands here on the Laptop Sessions music blog!

“Love Minus Zero/No Limit” (Bob Dylan Cover)

By Chris Moore:

Well, my voice is still pretty much shot, so I did what I thought was logical… record another Dylan tune!

This is one that I’ve been saving for some time, as it’s one of my favorites — Bob Dylan’s “Love Minus Zero/No Limit” off his half-acoustic, half-electric album Bringing It All Back Home. I’ll be recording more off of this album in the future, but even a Dylan fan as devoted as myself hasn’t completely memorized “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream”…

There’s some big news brewing for some live shows in the not-too-distant future, and as soon as dates are solidified, we’ll post them on the blog. For now, I really hope to see you for dinner at Testa’s in Southington this Saturday evening between 8:30 and 12:30. We’re prepared to play about 80 songs (which I don’t think we’ll get to, but we’re ready all the same!).

A final bit of good news — I hope to break 10,000 views on YouTube by my next post! Thanks again to all who have been watching my videos, both new and old, and I really hope you’ll come see them all — Jim’s, Jeff’s, and mine — at https://guitarbucketlist.com !!

You can look forward to an all-new session from Jeff tomorrow, and I’ll see you next session!

“Nothingman” (Pearl Jam Cover)

By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to Tuesday’s installment of The Laptop Sessions! I’m a bit late with this post because I had Dynamis in FFXI this evening, and the take I did before that didn’t come out very well. So I had to do it after that.

The song I chose tonight is called “Nothingman” by Pearl Jam. It is from their 3rd album “Vitalogy”. I love this album and plan on doing a couple more songs from Pearl Jam in future sessions.

Due to an index finger injury to my left hand two months ago, I still have some problems getting the Bb chord down on an acoustic guitar. It is getting better, but you may notice a sound quality difference when I play that chord.

Tomorrow is Original Wednesday (well, literally in 1 hour 15 minutes), so look for Jim to come out with another great original song. Stay tuned!
